Your Guide to Towing Services

Tow trucks are one of society’s little lifesavers. If your vehicle has been in an accident, has broken down, is stuck (e.g. in mud), is behaving dangerously, has unexpectedly run out of fuel or simply needs to be moved somewhere but isn’t currently legal to drive, one call to a towing service will usually get you out of trouble.

A good towing firm will be on call 24 hours. They will also be affiliated with all of the major insurance companies, meaning that if you’ve been in an accident and intend to make an insurance claim, you can get a tow and include that as part of the cost of the repairs without too much fuss.

What Vehicles Can a Towing Service Handle?

Along with cars, a good towing firm will be able to safely, efficiently transport everything from motorbikes to 4WDs, light commercial vehicles and even motorhomes. It’s also possible to move machinery and other large items by tow truck – just consult with the towing service about what item(s) you have in mind and they’ll do their best to help.

Why Should You Use a Towing Service?

As noted in our introductory paragraph, there are many reasons why someone might request a tow truck. However, let’s focus on auto accidents. Even if the vehicle isn’t showing a lot of visible damage, there can be serious issues you can’t see. Furthermore, the damage may get worse if you try to drive it. Then there’s the fact that being in a crash shakes people up – often more than they realise at the time. They really shouldn’t be driving while in this state. All of these things together should be enough to convince you that if you’re unlucky enough to be in a fender-bender, the sensible course of action when you’ve checked everyone is OK is to phone a good towing firm.

Is Towing Expensive?

The short answer is: no, not for what you get.

The longer answer is: the cost of towing will depend on your type/size of vehicle, where you are, where the vehicle needs to be taken, the day and time you call, and how easy it is to actually get to your vehicle and hook it up to the tow truck.

It’s far better to pay for a towing service than try to drive a car, etc. that isn’t safe and/or isn’t legal. Along with saving you worry and further trouble, you’ll get the benefit of being able to ask advice from the tow-truck driver, who will have seen similar situations many times before and know the best course of action.
